Marketing List Cleansing – Beat The ePrivacy Regulations
Does your marketng list need cleansing ?
With all the talk about the data compliance changes brought in GDPR many people have missed out on the fact The Privacy and Electronic Communication Relations (PECR, more usually referred to as Pecker) have failed to change alongside them as was planned. They are in fact substantially the same was when they first rolled out in 2002 as the E-Privacy Directive
PECR currently sits alongside GDPR and deals with most things to do with electronic communication as the name suggests. The regulations where due to change as GDPR came in, but for whatever reason the ePrivacy Regulations were not then ready and at the time of writing it looks like they will only come in to force In 2019.
What this means is that of you rely on email or telephone marketing lists to create new leads there may still be time to get your list into compliant shape before the new ePrivacy Regulations come in to force.
Now, it must be said, that at this stage it is far for clear what the new regulations will say exactly but we do know they will alter the privacy landscape for;
- Cookies
- Marketing Emails
- Tele Marketing
- Apps
- Location Data
- Communication Security
- Any tech that ‘phones home’
It is also a reasonable assumption that they will tighten up rather than relax the current regulatory landscape.
