According to an investigation by the GMB Union there have been hundreds of serious injuries in the past three years at Amazon warehouses in the UK involving Amazon warehouse workers. All employers have a duty to abide by the rules and regulations relating to health and safety in the workplace, and Amazon is no different.
According to the investigation the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) received many reports of injuries in a Amazon warehouses, including:
- Boxes falling on the worker causing a head injury
- An employee being run over by a lorry causing internal bruising.
- A worker suffering a broken after trapping it in a gate
The research says that between 2016/19 over 600 reports were made to the HSE. The GMB believes that the figures are going up each year.
Can I make a claim against Amazon for my accident?
Any warehouse can be a dangerous workplace, with a lot of hazards present, for example, moving machinery and fork lift trucks. Amazon however, have a legal obligation to do all they reasonably can to keep employees safe.
If you have had an accident in an Amazon warehouse which caused you an injury you might be entitled to make a claim for compensation.
Compensation can be obtained for your loss of earnings, the cost of care and other costs you have had to pay out, as well as compensation for your injury and the pain you have suffered. Often, a Personal Injury solicitor is able to obtain an interim payment for you for your lost earnings, which will help you take the time out to concentrate on your recovery without worrying about money.
