A Simple Guide to Leg Injury Compensation

For most of us, using our legs is an integral part to our day to day lives. Our legs provide us with the ability to move around independently, drive vehicles and participate in sports and hobbies, therefore a leg injury can be incredibly debilitating.

The leg contains four bones. The femur found in the thigh is the longest bone in the body and whilst it is also the strongest, it is still susceptible to injury. The Tibia and Fibula are located in the lower leg, connecting the knee to the ankle, these bones tend to sustain injuries more frequently in general. A leg injury may leave you temporarily on crutches or in a wheelchair, in a severe case the leg may be amputated or left permanently disfigured. Common injuries include muscular tears, lacerations, and a broad range of fractures including open fractures where an injury exposes the bone.

Many accidents at work are reported to involve injuries to the leg. Particularly on construction sites, in warehouses and factories, as well as farms where there is regular use of heavy machinery. Poorly maintained equipment, uneven or slippery surfaces, falls from height and lack of adequate training or PPE can all give rise to leg injuries in these environments. There are also some sports that lend themselves to leg injuries, such as contact sports like football and rugby when a tackle goes wrong.

We are unfortunately very aware of the impact a leg injury can have on someone’s personal and professional life. Thankfully, with the years of knowledge and expertise our team have in handling this type of claim, we have already been able to help many clients obtain the compensation they deserve.

How much is your leg injury claim worth?

The figures shown below are provided as guidelines. In order to determine a more accurate valuation of your potential injury claim, it is recommended that you speak with one of our solicitors.

  • £92,000 – £265,000 – Loss of Both or One Leg or Part Amputation
  • £37,000 – £51,500 – Severe Leg Injury
  • £26,000 – £37,000 – Moderate Leg Injury
  • £8,500 – £26,000 – Less Severe Leg Injury
  • Around £2,500 – Modest injury to Leg

What are General and Special Damages?

The compensation calculator can help you estimate the out of compensation you might receive for your injury claim. This part of your compensation is known as General Damages, as it relates to the pain, suffering and loss of amenity that you have suffered as a result of your accident.

  • Pain: refers to the initial pain you suffered when your accident occurred.
  • Suffering: refers to the ongoing pain that you have endured since the accident.
  • Loss of amenity: refers to the fact that you could either for a period, or permanently no longer do something that you could do prior to the accident, for example play a sport.

The compensation calculator does not include other losses that you might have incurred as a result of your accident. Such as, loss of earnings, cost of care or damage to property. These items are known as Special Damages and can be claimed in addition to the General Damages mentioned above. The amount of compensation you receive will ultimately be made up of General and Special Damages, that is your injury claim and financial losses.
