A Simple Guide to Arm Injury Compensation

An arm injury can be painful, annoying and in some cases life-changing. Whilst an arm injury won’t necessarily render us immobile, they can cause complications when trying to perform everyday tasks, especially if the injury is to the dominant arm.

There are four parts to the arm, the upper arm, the forearm, elbow and wrist. The effect on quality of life depends on the whereabouts and severity of the arm injury sustained, for example an injury to the forearm may still allow movement of the arm from the shoulder, however an injury to the upper arm could leave you unable to use the arm altogether. Typical injuries to the arm include lacerations, muscle, ligament, tendon and soft tissue injures, sprains, fractures and amputation.

An arm injury can happen more or less anywhere. They can occur at work when operating dangerous tools or machinery, through slipping or tripping in public, or following a road traffic accident. If the injuries sustained are as a result of somebody else’s negligence, then you may be entitled to claim compensation. Any financial compensation awarded would be comprised of both General Damages (for pain, suffering and loss of amenity) and Special Damages (for any financial losses or costs incurred as a result of your accident and/or injuries. This includes loss of earnings, treatment, care, equipment, property and travel expenses).

We are unfortunately very aware of the impact an arm injury can have on someone’s personal and professional life. Thankfully, with the years of knowledge and expertise our team have in handling this type of claim, we have already been able to help many clients obtain the compensation they deserve.

The figures shown below are provided as guidelines. In order to determine a more accurate valuation of your potential injury claim, it is recommended that you speak with one of our solicitors.

You may be wondering following an injury “what is my arm injury worth”.

  • £90,000 – £226,000 – Loss of one or both Arms
  • £37,000 – £123,000 – Severe Damage  to One Arm
  • £6,000- £37,000 – Moderate and Less Severe Damage to one Arm

What are General and Special Damages?

The compensation calculator can help you estimate the out of compensation you might receive for your injury claim. This part of your compensation is known as General Damages, as it relates to the pain, suffering and loss of amenity that you have suffered as a result of your accident.

  • Pain: refers to the initial pain you suffered when your accident occurred.
  • Suffering: refers to the ongoing pain that you have endured since the accident.
  • Loss of amenity: refers to the fact that you could either for a period, or permanently no longer do something that you could do prior to the accident, for example play a sport.

The compensation calculator does not include other losses that you might have incurred as a result of your accident. Such as, loss of earnings, cost of care or damage to property. These items are known as Special Damages and can be claimed in addition to the General Damages mentioned above. The amount of compensation you receive will ultimately be made up of General and Special Damages, that is your injury claim and financial losses.
